Student Recital Hour with Olivia Block

DePauw's weekly recital hour features talented School of Music students -- and occasional guests! This week's guest is Chicago-based multimedia artist and composer Olivia Block, who uses analog and digital recording technology to capture the overlapping sounds, voices, images and textures of specific urban environments, transforming them into audio-visual installations. Among Block's recent projects is a large-scale multi-speaker sound installation, Sonambient Pavilion, in Chicago's Millennium Park, utilizing sounds from Harry Bertoia's Sonambient sculptures.

Guest saxophonist Brad Leali, formerly of the Harry Connick Jr. Orchestra, joins the DePauw Jazz Ensemble for an exemplary evening of contemporary and classic big band music for the 5 p.m. closing concert of the second annual DePauw jazz clinic.

The DePauw University Bands, directed by Craig Paré, present "A Spring Bouquet" featuring a potpourri of classic works for symphonic band and chamber winds. Familiar composer favorites Mozart, Bach, Sousa and Milhaud are joined on this concert program by new friends Washburn, Hearshen, Hays, and Husa for an enjoyable afternoon of music for winds and percussion. Audience members are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated directly to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry following the concert. Bring an item and receive a free ticket to the performance!
