The Cloverdale FFA livestock judging team -- members Taylor Goss (second place), Brady Mann (eighth), Drew Boyette and Nathan Mann -- finished first of 15 teams that competed in the recent Rensselaer Livestock Invitational.

This was Cloverdale’s first competition of the season. The team is coached by Joe Mann and Cloverdale agriculture teacher and FFA adviser Morgan Conder.

The students were required to evaluate nine classes of livestock based on the livestock industry’s standards of perfection. Classes include both breeding stock and market classes of beef cattle, swine, sheep and meat goats.

The purpose of livestock judging is to provide a competitive event for agricultural education students, emphasizing skills in the livestock industry including evaluation, selection of desirable traits, communication and decision making skills and management.
