Spring seems to have sprung early in Greencastle and along with precocious daffodils and the greening of the Indiana landscape, DePauw University Bands Sunday will present “A Spring Bouquet,” featuring a potpourri of classic works for symphonic band and chamber winds.

The concert, conducted by Craig Paré, will given at 3 p.m. in the Green Center, located on the DePauw campus.

“If you’d like to sit back and enjoy a delightful assortment of pieces for band, this is the program for you,” Paré said. “Our versatile School of Music students will perform the music of several well-known composers — J.S. Bach, Mozart, John Philip Sousa and Darius Milhaud — together with a few composers who might be new to our audience, such as Karel Husa, Ralph Raymond Hays, Ira Hearshen and Robert Washburn.”

This colorful musical bouquet will present listeners with a variety of sounds and styles through such pieces as “Fanfare MMX” by Hays for brass and percussion, the opening movement of Mozart’s Serenade in C Minor for chamber winds, and the samba-influenced “Brazileira” by Milhaud — alongside Mrs. John Philip Sousa’s favorite march, “The Thunderer.”

For this event, audience members are also invited to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated directly to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry following the performance. Bring an item and exchange it at the Green Center Box Office for a free concert ticket.

General admission to the DePauw Band performance is $5. For more information or to make online purchases, visit www.music.depauw.edu.
