County Jail

Two people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Thursday.

• At 9:33 p.m. William Lee Keyt, 35, Carbon, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction.

• At 1:12 a.m. Levi Wade Runnells, 26, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant and a Marion County warrant.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police.

• At 10:30 a.m. Thursday, John William Johnson III, 47, Terre Haute, was arrested by Officer Kyle Lee on a Putnam County warrant for theft in the Burger King parking lot on Indianapolis Road.

While being taken into custody, Johnson was also found to be in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

One property-damage accident was investigated recently by GPD.

The mishap occurred at 7:39 p.m. Thursday on Indianapolis Road near Warren Drive as Brad Davis, 45, Coatesville, was westbound, approaching Warren Drive in a 1994 Chevrolet van.

Melissa Yeagley, 26, Greencastle, was eastbound at the same time, passing the intersection driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer.

Davis told Officer Matt Huffman that he looked down at his cellphone and the van he was driving crossed the center line, striking the Yeagley vehicle head-on and pushing it backward in the process, police said.

Total damage in the accident was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.

One citation was issued by city officers recently.

• At 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Edgar Cancela, 28, Crawfordsville, was ticketed by Officer Darrel Bunten.

Stopped on Veterans Memorial Highway, Cancela was cited for being an operator never licensed.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to one recent property-damage accident.

• At 11:19 p.m. on Wednesday, Jerry N. Manion, 41, Cloverdale, was southbound on County Road 150 West about half a mile south of Lone Star in a 2011 Chevrolet C2500.

Manion told Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle that a large bull mastiff was chasing a coyote and ran into the road. Manion could not avoid hitting the dog.

The dog was killed in the impact. The owner was notified.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to two dispatches.

• At 7:46 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to reports of a motor-vehicle accident at 100 S. Warren Dr. No injuries were reported in the single-vehicle accident. GFD assisted in the cleanup of fluids and debris from the roadway before returning to station at 8:39 p.m.

• At 2:32 a.m. on Friday, GFD respond to a fire alarm with no known cause at 207 S. Indiana St. Unable to determine what activated the alarm, GFD reset the alarm and subsequently returned to station at 2:37 a.m.
