County Jail

Twelve people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 5:26 p.m. Nathan Ryan Hill, 24, Coatesville, was lodged at the jail for probation violation.

• At 4:21 p.m. Desiree Lynn Agee, 29, Poland, was taken into custody on three local warrants.

• At 3:41 p.m. Joshua Sebastian Houle, 30, Terre Haute, was arrested on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 2:34 p.m. Stephanie Danielle Ray, 31, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

• At 2:34 p.m. Brandon Wayne Stephy, 33, Martinsville, was booked in for domestic battery.

• At 10:09 a.m. Terry Bryan King II, 30, Clayton, was charged with domestic battery.

• At 6:36 a.m. Daniel Stephen Roach, 35, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for failure to appear.

• At 1:53 a.m. Timothy Lee Miller, 47, Greencastle, was booked in for strangulation, battery and possession of paraphernalia.

Tuesday

• At 9:15 p.m. Arthur Eugene Ross, 66, Poland, was taken into custody on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

• At 6:33 p.m. Jared Anthony Pentz, 27, Fillmore, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 5:16 p.m. Mary L. Hickman, 58, Cloverdale, was arrested for theft, resisting law enforcement and driving while intoxicated with alcohol.

• At 3:53 p.m. Kenneth Vern Sargent, 22, Greencastle, was booked in on a local warrant.

Sheriff’s Department

A pair of recent single-vehicle accidents resulted in the arrest of two local men on driving while intoxicated charges.

• At 7:46 p.m. on Tuesday, Walter L. Pate Jr., 52, Bainbridge, was westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 600 East in a 2013 Cadillac Escalade when it made front-end impact with a guardrail on the north side of the road.

Pate told Deputy Kyle Gibbons he was reaching for his cell phone when he lost sight of the road and hit the guardrail.

Gibbons said Pate showed symptoms of someone under the influence of an intoxicating substance.

Pate was taken to Putnam County Hospital, where he tested positive for multiple controlled substances. He was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 11:49 p.m. for driving while intoxicated.

The vehicle was towed.

Pate could not show proof of insurance. Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

• At 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nolan T. Dorsett, 24, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 300 North in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala when it left the road and entered a ditch.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed. Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman smelled the odor of alcohol and administered a field sobriety test as well as a portable breath test, on which Dorsett registered at .092 BAC. He subsequently tested at .93 on a certified test.

Dorsett was booked in at 10:44 p.m. for driving while intoxicated.

Deputies responded to two other recent traffic mishaps.

• At 2:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Donald Terza, 60, Ligonier, Pa., was westbound on Interstate 70 just west of the 33-mile marker in 2017 Chevrolet Impala when he fell asleep at the wheel.

The car collided with the guardrail on the north side of the road, heavily damaging the car and the guardrail.

Terza was not injured. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

Deputy Freeman reported that Terza held only an identification card from Pennsylvania. He instead possessed an Australian driver’s license.

• At 9:33 p.m. on Sunday, Shelbi L. Cash, 20, Roachdale, was northbound on County Road 750 East, just south of County Road 100 North, in a 2016 Ford Focus when her vehicle hit a deer.

Deputy Gibbons estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

City Police

Five recent traffic citations were issued by Greencastle officers.

• At 1:33 p.m. Wednesday, Michelle Curry, 47, Greencastle, was cited for speeding by Capt. Chris Jones.

Stopped on South Jackson Street, Curry was ticketed for 35 mph in a 20-mph zone.

• At 2:04 p.m. Wednesday, Trevor Walton-Feller, 23, Terre Haute, was ticketed by Capt. Jones.

Stopped at South Jackson and Washington streets, Walton-Feller was cited for driving with a suspended license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to six dispatches and two medical assists.

• At 9:52 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 2 W. Seminary St. A third-floor detector head had been set off unnecessarily by dust from nearby construction. GFD reset the alarm and subsequently returned to station at 10:15 a.m.

• At 8 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 109 W. Hanna St. GFD returned to station at 8:10 p.m.

• At 8:37 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 1901 E. State Road 240. GFD associates informed the department that a kitchen grill was being cleaned an set off the alarm unnecessarily. GFD subsequently returned to station at 8:58 p.m.

• At 1:55 p.m. on Thursday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to nearby construction work at 821 E. Franklin St. GFD reset the alarm and subsequently returned to station at 2:10 p.m.
