Dream catchers topic for April 5 library program

Friday, March 31, 2017

The third event in Putnam County Public Library’s five-part “Making and Baking with Bridgette” series will be do-it-yourself dream catchers.

Dream catchers are a traditional object that originated with the native American Ojibwe people from north of the Great Lakes. They associated dream catchers with their Spider Woman, known as Asibikaashi, who took care of children and the people of the land. To assist her, mothers and grandmothers would place the “web-like” dream catchers near cribs and children’s beds, to capture any harm in the air, much like the web of a spider.

Persons 12 and older are invited to take part in the Wednesday, April 5 program at 4 p.m. at the library, 103 E. Poplar St., Greencastle.

The event is free of charge, but preregistration is highly encouraged.

Patrons can sign up at the circulation desk at the library or by calling 653-2755.
