Bridge project to close one lane of U.S. 36 in Parke County beginning next week

Monday, April 17, 2017

ROCKVILLE -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced a bridge deck replacement project on the U.S. 36 bridge over the Wabash River in Parke County, beginning Monday, April 24.

Traffic will be restricted to one 10-foot lane over the Wabash River Bridge. Traffic will be controlled at the bridge with a traffic signal.

The project was awarded to Wabash Valley Asphalt for $10.2 million.

The bridge work is scheduled to be completed by the first week in October.

The suggested wide load detour follows U.S. 36 in Rockville south on U.S. 41 to State Road 163 to State Road 63 and back to U.S. 36.

The remainder of the project stretching into 2018 will include paving and bridge deck overlays.

U.S. 36 will be resurfaced from Rockville to the Indiana/Illinois State line. That portion of the project is scheduled for completion by Sept. 30, 2018.

INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone.
