Habitat for Humanity sets fundraiser breakfast

Sunday, April 23, 2017

Putnam County Habitat for Humanity will have a pancake breakfast at Reelsville Fire Department on Saturday, April 29 from 9-11 a.m.

Payment will be via free-will donation.

PCHH board members will be on hand alongside Nancy Rosa, executive officer, and Frank Mahurin, construction manager.

Habitat built its first home in 1998. Since that time, 18 homes have been built.

In the last two years, PCHH has begun a Home Preservation program. It is a repair program available to low-income families who own their home. The costs of the repairs are based upon donations received, volunteers, skilled labor and materials. Payments for these repairs are based upon income and are interest free.

The new program PCHH is starting is called Aging in Place. This repair program is for senior citizens (55 and older) who own their home.

Different from the Home Preservation program, Aging in Place has no minimum source of income. The income requirement is the homeowner cannot make more than 60 percent of HUD’s median income for the area.

Habitat’s home building program has been slow due of lack of donations, although, PCHH is getting ready to select a partner family for a rehabbed home in the Reelsville area.

Anyone interested in obtaining a Habitat home may contact the office at 653-5360 or putnamhabitat@gmail.com for more information.

All programs are based on the following criteria: Need, ability to pay and willingness to partner. Putnam County Habitat for Humanity is considered a “hand up, not a handout.”
