Janet R. Aker, 76, of Utica, Ky., passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at her home.

Janet graduated from Greencastle High School in 1958.

She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Utica United Methodist Church and Lena United Methodist Church in Indiana.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She and her husband worked together, first on their family farm, and then in the trucking business. Her commitment and strength are qualities to be greatly admired. Her bright smile, quick laugh and genuine caring will be missed by all who knew her.

Janet enjoyed gardening, canning, spending time with family and friends, and her adoring dogs and cats.

She married John Edward Aker on Oct. 11, 1959. He survives her, as well as daughter, Susan (Andy) Martin of Goshen; a son, John Eli (Amie) Aker of Owensboro, Ky.; and daughter, Diana (Tommy) Aker-Ashton of Utica, Ky.

She is also survived by sister/bestfriend Suzanne (Tub) Mace; grandchildren Matthew (Tabatha) Martin, Sheena Strain, Nathan Martin and Sarah Martin; sister-in-laws Barbara Aker and Shirley (Jim) Swim, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Francis Allen and Thelma Jo Wiatt; and her canine best friend, Teddy.

The family of Mrs. Aker will welcome friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
