Another Liberty Street drug bust reported by GPD

Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Responding to a report of multiple drug transactions allegedly taking place in front of a Greencastle home, City Police Officers were dispatched to the East Liberty Street area during the evening hours Tuesday.

Steven Davis

Officer Elsiana Crosby, Reserve Officer Kenny Shepherd and Officer Matt Huffman observed the North Side home from a distance, ultimately making contact with multiple individuals leaving the residence.

At one point, Officer Crosby made contact at the residence, inquiring about two parked vehicles in front of the home. One of those had been reported to Reserve Officer Shepherd as being a vehicle in which two unnamed subjects had recently placed suspicious property.

Crosby made contact with K-9 Officer Kyle Lee, who arrived at the scene with his partner "Cain." Prior to K-9 deployment around the vehicles, Crosby spoke with a male who appeared to be working under the hood of one of the vehicles.

The male identified himself as "Alan Davis" but indicated that he had no identification on him.

However, a positive indication on the vehicle by "Cain" led to a search of the vehicle and to the discovery of drug sale/use paraphernalia as well as multiple tools, similar to those recently reported stolen in a burglary, police said.

A pat-down search of "Alan Davis" by Officer Lee led to the discovery of an Indiana identification card that showed the male's photo image but with the name Steven E. Davis, 49, of Greencastle.

Greencastle Officers Elsiana Crosby, Kyle Lee and K-9 Officer Cain display items confiscated in a bust Tuesday night on East Liberty Street.

Lee also located 28 grams of a white, crystallized substance in a plastic baggie within the suspect's right pocket (later field tested positive for methamphetamine).

Davis then attempted to flee the scene and was quickly apprehended by Officer Lee.

During a further search of the suspect, two more plastic baggies were discovered, one containing more of the white, crystallized substance and one with 20 prescription pills and a digital scale.

Davis was transported to the Putnam County Jail by Officer Crosby pending review of charges by the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.

This isn't the first time the East Liberty Street area has reportedly been the scene of drug activity. Back on March 7, four Greencastle suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 69, were arrested by the Putnamville District Methamphetamine Suppression Team at a 9 E. Liberty St. residence.

During that investigation, authorities found numerous items associated with the possible manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana, including scales, baggies, smoking devices, syringes and glass plates. However, only trace amounts of the alleged drugs were located in that raid.

Four individuals were incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail as a result of the March 7 incident:

-- Michael A. Kessler, 69, of Greencastle, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

-- Beth A. Thompson, 32, of Greencastle, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

-- Anthony M. Jones, 21, of Greencastle, maintaining a common nuisance.

-- Logan M. Galloway, 18, Greencastle, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
