Attempted armed robbery reported at Family Video

Thursday, April 27, 2017

A reported attempted armed robbery at the Family Video business on Indianapolis Road in Greencastle Wednesday night sent Greencastle Police Officer Brad Hiatt to the scene at approximately 7:50 p.m.

The store clerk advised that he had been talking to his girlfriend on the phone when the suspect came into the video store. When the clerk hung up on his girlfriend, the woman then called the police to request a welfare check at Family Video.

Upon the arrival of officers, the store clerk advised that a male subject, carrying a handgun in his waistband, was dressed in all black and wearing a black ski mask. The store clerk was unable to determine the race of the suspect.

The suspect wanted money, but when the clerk informed him that police were on their way, the would-be robber immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Assisting officers at the scene included Capt. Charles Inman, Reserve Officer Billy Wallace, Officer Zach Rhine and Assistant Chief Brian Hopkins.

Anyone who has information related to this incident is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Michael Collins at 653-2925.

  • Maybe he's hiding in the mini van parked at the exit of Family Video.
