There is no election this year but that doesn’t mean local political activity has ground to a halt.

As proof of that, Putnam County Democrats will host a town hall meeting on Sunday, April 30 from 7-8 p.m. at the Greencastle Elks Lodge, 202 S. Indiana St.

Special guest will be Joe Mackey, one of at least three potential candidates (Sherry Shipley and George Reed are the others) for the Democrat nomination in Indiana’s 4th congressional district. That is the seat currently held by Republican Todd Rokita.

Mackey is scheduled to discuss the Affordable Care Act and the impact its repeal could have locally and nationally.

Mackey, a lifelong Lafayette resident, worked for 30 years at Caterpillar Inc. before retiring last year. He and his wife founded the Claire E. and Patrick G. Mackey Children’s Cancer Foundation after losing two children to pediatric leukemia.

Meanwhile, Kim Fidler of Greencastle, who ran for the District 44 state representative seat in the Indiana House, is scheduled to provide a short statehouse legislative update.
