Mountain Man Rendezvous this weekend at Bridgeton

BRIDGETON -- The 25th annual Mountain Man Rendezvous is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30 in the Parke County community of Bridgeton.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday as visitors can enjoy a taste of authentic early 1800s living in a beautiful historic setting. Visitors can walk through the Mountain Man camp and see re-enactors in authentic costumes and find pioneer goods for sale.

Black powder muzzle-loader shooting is set for 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with a canoe race on Raccoon Creek at 2 p.m. Saturday, along with knife- and tomahawk-throwing demonstrations.

Visitors can also see pioneer crafters at work, including a blacksmith, woodworkers, spinning and knitting. At the 1822 Case Log Cabin they can see how pioneers cooked their meals on the hearth.

The Bridgeton Grist Mill will be open for an 1800s corn-grinding demonstration. Collom’s General Store will have beans and cornbread available for lunch while the Mill Snackshop offers a variety of goodies.

No admission charge is necessary for any of the events.

The Bridgeton Fire Department Jonah Fish Fry is set for Saturday, April 29 from 2-7 p.m. at the new firehouse.
