Give Local Putnam County Day chance to help local charities

A Tuesday online competition will give supporters of local charities the chance to support their favorite causes not only with their own gifts, but with the chance to earn even more.

Tuesday, May 2 is Give Local Putnam County, a 24-hour, online giving competition hosted by the Putnam County Community Foundation. Contest giving begins at 12 a.m. and ends at 11:59 p.m.

Nearly all of the 300 endowments at the Foundation are eligible, each supporting its own cause.

“Give Local Putnam County raises money for our community and helps make our county a more vital, vibrant place to live,” said Elaine Peck, executive director of the Community Foundation. “This contest connects our community with the national Give Local America day when community foundations from all over the country raise money for charitable endowments and nonprofits in their communities.”

To win and be eligible for prizes, endowments must receive at least 10 donations of $25 or more during the 24-hour giving period. Additionally, online gifts must total more $500.

The organization that meets these requirements and raises the most money will receive an additional $1,000 and second place an additional $500, which they may use immediately or contribute to their endowment funds.

Secure credit and debit card donations may be made to any of the endowment funds. Simply designate which fund to support by entering the information during the checkout process.
