More alleged drug activity sends GPD back to East Liberty

Thursday, May 4, 2017

For the third time in less than two months, police have visited an East Liberty Street residence in regard to alleged drug activity.

This time, Greencastle Police Officers Elsiana Crosby and Matt Huffman, Capt. Charles Inman and Sgt. Eric Vaughan executed a search warrant at 9 E. Liberty St. to seize any property/paraphernalia, items and substances used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, notes and ledgers relating to the sale of the drug or items used for packaging the product.

The April 29 raid, occurring at approximately 11:30 p.m., was conducted relevant to an ongoing criminal investigation involving possession of methamphetamine, dealing in methamphetamine, illegal drug labs, possession or sale of precursors.

Items seized by Greencastle City Police officers relevant to an ongoing drug investigation at 9 E. Liberty St.

Officer Crosby filed a report with the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office for review of charges. No individuals have been named at this time.

Earlier, responding to a report of multiple drug transactions allegedly occurring in front of the residence, officers were dispatched to the area on April 25, observing the home from a distance and ultimately stopping multiple individuals leaving the house.

However, a positive indication on a vehicle by K9 officer "Cain" led to discovery of drug sale/use paraphernalia as well as multiple tools, similar to those recently reported stolen in a burglary, police said.

That led to the arrest of Steven E. Davis, 49, of Greencastle, as officers confiscated 28 grams of a white, crystallized substance in a plastic baggie within the suspect's pocket (field-tested positive for methamphetamine).

A further search of the suspect, who attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended, revealed two more plastic baggies, one containing more of the white, crystallized substance and one with 20 prescription pills and a digital scale.

That wasn't even the first time 9 E. Liberty St. has reportedly been the scene of recent drug activity. Back on March 7, four suspects, ranging in age from 18 to 69, were arrested by the Putnamville District Methamphetamine Suppression Team.

During that investigation, authorities found numerous items associated with the alleged manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and marijuana. However, only trace amounts of the alleged drugs were located in that raid.

Four Greencastle residents arrested as a result of the March 7 incident were:

-- Michael A. Kessler, 69, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

-- Beth A. Thompson, 32, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

-- Anthony M. Jones, 21, maintaining a common nuisance.

-- Logan M. Galloway, 18, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.
