Area 30 recognizes nearly 150 seniors
In a ceremony on Thursday, the Area 30 Career Center recognized nearly 150 seniors who had completed at least one year in one or two programs.
Seventeen students received scholarships: Derek Ummel (Indiana Blood Center Scholarship, $400); Emma Taylor (Busch-Nunley Scholarship, $1,500); Mary Bousman, Jessica Duell, Taylor Graham, Nashoba Lackey, Harley Manion, Rachael Mboga, Grace Paul, Gabrielle Selvia, Ben Schultz, Emily Scott, Abigail Speas, Lydia Trout, Madison Trout, Grace Willard and Cameron Wunderlich (Area 30 Career Center Scholarship, various).
In other developments:
-- Absences: Eminence Superintendent Jeff Gibboney was absent.
-- Certifications: Director Lora Busch reported that 43 Area 30 students have received important certifications that local employers are looking for in new employees. In welding, eight students received the 1G GMAW-P and three students received the 3G Down GMAW-P, 1G SMAW 7018 and 3G UP SMAW 7018. Meanwhile, 30 CNA students passed both the written and skills exam (32 passed the exams separately).
-- Claims: The board approved the claims at a total of $200,890.22, an increase of $50,617.93 from last month and a decrease of $12,738.09 from the year’s average.
-- Computer Science Summer Camp: Director Lora Busch reported that the Computer Science Summer Camp, set for June 12-16 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., has enrolled two students each from Cloverdale High School and Eminence High School, three from South Putnam High School and four students each from Greencastle High School and North Putnam High School.
-- 2017-18 Draft Budget: Assistant Director Chad Nunley presented the 2017-18 draft budget. The board is set to consider the budget again at its next regular meeting.
