The Putnam County Convention and Visitor Bureau (PCCVB) has established a new grant program to encourage the development of tourism assets in the county.

The Tourism Asset Development Grant Program (TAD) is open to county nonprofit organizations for the purpose of creating and/or developing assets that will result in attracting new visitors and tourists to Putnam County.

PCCVB has allocated $50,000 toward TAD grants over the next two years for as long as resources are available. The program offers 1:1 matching funds for requests up to $20,000. Funding left over from this year may carry over to the next year. The program offers 1:1 matching funds for requests up to $20,000.

Awards are recommended by the PCCVB Grants Committee and approved by the PCCVB Board of Directors. High consideration will be given to applicants requesting funding for assets that will either generate new overnight stays or extend a current stay for Putnam County overnight accommodation properties.

The objective of the TAD grant program is to assist qualified organizations in developing capital tourism assets in Putnam County. TAD grant funds are available for, but not limited to, the following types of projects:

-- Building or expanding venues for events, festivals, sporting and particular attractions.

-- Permanent beautification projects centered on ongoing tourism efforts.

-- Public art that would attract new visitors.

-- One-time enhancements of existing attractions.

TAD funds are not available for the following:

• Operating costs (including web hosting and domain registration)

• Items used the day of the event for the participants and aren’t for promotional purposes to (i.e. tickets, bags, giveaways, etc.)

• Fireworks displays

• Food and drink

• Mileage and/or other travel costs

• Staff salaries, volunteer stipends, or any other “payment” to an individual

• Marketing and promotion

Projects should enhance Putnam County’s image and offerings as a tourist destination. Projects must have more than a local impact, and promote to out-of-county visitors.

Applying organizations may submit no more than one request per project in 12 months. Previously funded projects must show enhancements and/or changes from prior years and grant funding for the same purpose as a previous grant will not be given in future years.

There is no application deadline and applications will be reviewed as they are received and as is feasible for the Grants Committee to review. Complete information as well as grant applications are available on the PCCVB’s new website at www.goputnam.com/grants.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to meet with the executive director or a PCCVB board member prior to submitting an application to address any questions of the applicants.
