CLOVERDALE — A Mississippi man was taken into custody late Tuesday evening following an Indiana State Police SWAT operation that lasted more than four hours.

Rusty Squires, 50, Quitman, Miss., was wanted for parole violation in Mississippi.

Authorities received information from Mississippi officials that Squires may be armed and in the Cloverdale area.

Numerous units from Cloverdale Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police responded to a heavily wooded area on County Road 1100 South, west of Clover Meadows Golf Course.

ISP SWAT deployed several units upon the area where Squires was reported to be camping, ultimately locating him and taking him into custody without incident.

Putnam County Sheriff Scott Stockton thanked a number of other parties that took part.

“I want to thank Operation Life for being on scene if needed for this event as well as the Cloverdale golf course manager Lisa Fields, as the clubhouse and parking area became the Operations Center.

“Lastly for Casey’s for supplying pizza and water during the almost five hours event.”

Squires has an extensive criminal history in Mississippi, and was most recently arrested for allegedly stealing a disaster relief trailer from the Jones County Baptist Association.
