Lawrence E. (Bud) Thompson, 93, Plainfield, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017

He was born Feb. 4, 1924 in Montgomery County, Ind., to John and Gladys (Stewart) Thompson.

He graduated from Roachdale High School in 1942.

He was retired after 44 years as a process engineer with Federal Mogul Corp., Mooresville.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Kathryn (Duncan) Thompson, who he married April 11, 1943.

Survivors include children Carolyn (Jimmy) Fulkerson of Franklin, Phil (Debbie) Thompson of Mooresville, Patty (David) Harvey of Lexington, N.C., and Linda (Dave) Van Aken of Chester, Va., six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

One brother, Bill, is deceased.

Lawrence served proudly during World War II in the Navy aboard the battleship USS Alabama. They were in the final battles of the war in the South Pacific, and his ship led the fleet into Tokyo Bay for the signing of the peace treaty with Japan.

Funeral services will be conducted at Hall-Baker Funeral Home, 339 E. Main St, Plainfield, on Tuesday, May 23 at 10 a.m.

Following funeral services, graveside services will be at noon at Roachdale Cemetery, State Road 236, Roachdale.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, May 22 at Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield.
