BAINBRIDGE -- As part of the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) School Library Month, April saw a myriad of activities for teachers and students alike inside the media center at North Putnam High School.

The annual, month-long event was dedicated to encouraging students to read and utilize the many resources typically found inside a school library.

Functions at North Putnam, which included raffle prizes, authors of the week, a bracket-style Book Battle and posters sharing favorite books/authors, were sponsored by North Putnam administrator and coach Tony Gray.

Gray said the month “celebrated the use of the school library and was successful in drawing new students into the media center to read and explore the resources and programs offered.”

Whenever a book or magazine was checked out during the month of April at NPHS, the student responsible was automatically entered into a raffle drawing, some of which took place daily while others took place weekly.

The raffle tickets also came complete with chances to win T-shirts and/or candy with the winner of a grand-prize raffle taking home a book of their choice from Amazon.

Furthermore, a bracket-style Book Battle, looking much like the brackets used during the NCAA college basketball season March Madness, saw student Caleb Cooksey take home the grand prize -- a complete series set of the “13th Reality” by author James Dashner.

Students voted throughout the month on their favorite books or book series. Overall, the “Divergent” series came in first with 15 votes while the “Hunger Games” series took second with 14.
