PCPL set to launch Ancient Practices for Modern Healing

The Putnam County Public Library will begin an educational series “Ancient Practices for Modern Healing” Wednesday, June 7 from 5-6:30 p.m.

Marian Harvey, RN/BSN health educator, will teach practices that promote healing power from within and optimal health. Part of the “Build a Better World” Summer Reading Program, the series will be each Wednesday June 7-July 26 with the exception of July 21.

• June 7, “Introduction to Ancient Techniques” -- Basic concepts, including ayurved, healing touch, reiki and vibrational medicine. Learn self-pulse/body type diagnosis, breathing, meditation and energy-based self-healing techniques that will be reviewed and practiced each session.

• June 14, “Practice of Ayurved in Daily Life” -- How to incorporate the basics of Ayurved/healing practices into a modern day season routine.

• June 28, “Ayurved Principles for Health and Ideal Body Weight” -- Nutrition, strong digestion and maintaining optimal body weight with use of food as medicine.

• July 5, “Energy Healing” -- Healing techniques of therapeutic healing touch and reiki.

• July 12, “Vibrational Medicine” -- See a presentation and experience the use of sounds such as chanting, singing, laughter and mantras for healing.

• July 19, “Meditation as Medicine” -- Introduction to a variety of meditative practices for daily use.

• July 26, “Transitional Healing” -- Focus on letting go, surviving change, end-of-life challenges and “deathing” techniques.
