County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• At 10:48 p.m. Larry Estle Parrish Jr., 50, Center Point, was lodged at the jail on a local warrant for battery.

• At 7:50 p.m. Stanley Eugene McKinney, 35, Greencastle, was taken into custody for driving as a habitual traffic violator.

• At 4:11 p.m. Jonathan Michael Hankins, 38, Greencastle, was arrested for parole violation.

• At 11:48 a.m. Brandi Lyn Brown, 31, Reelsville, was housed at the jail for probation violation.

• At 5:20 a.m. Meagen Nichole Anderson, 25, Brazil, was charged with unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of a synthetic drug or lookalike.

• At 3:10 a.m. Jeremy David Devylder, 38, Greencastle, was booked on a Clay County warrant.

• At 2:39 a.m. Nicholas Allen Smith, 34, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for public intoxication (tested .12 percent under portable breathalyzer testing).

• At 2:12 a.m. Frank Adam Roche, 27, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a local warrant for petition to revoke probation.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to four recent property-damage accidents.

• At 4:42 a.m. on Friday, Jeffrey B. O’Neal, 57, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2009 GMC Sierra when he hit a deer.

Deputy Rob Soilleux estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 10:38 p.m. on Thursday Randolph L. Seipel, 50, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. Seipel told Deputy Soilleux he felt something “let go” on his vehicle and the front of the car dropped.

Seipel immediately pulled to the side of the road and discovered that the left front wheel was missing.

The tire and wheel were not initially found at the scene. However, Marisa L. Hurst, 22, Greencastle, was southbound on 231 when she hit the wheel.

Both cars were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

• At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Darryl L. Starr, 68, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 300 South in a 2012 Dodge Ram. Brandon P. Rumley, 40, Greencastle, was eastbound in a 2004 Ford F250.

As the vehicle passed, they clipped mirrors, breaking both. Both drivers told Deputy Virgil Lanning the other was left of center.

Damage was less than $1,000.

• At 10:12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, Matthew D. Collom, 31, Coatesville, was northbound on County Road 725 East when a deer ran into the side of his 2006 Dodge Ram.

Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to five dispatches and five medical assists.

• At 9:38 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 620 Primrose Ln. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 9:49 a.m.

• At 4:12 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to reports of a “fire on a porch” at 233 Elizabeth St. The cause of the small fire on the front porch of the residence was unable to be determined and no one was home at the time. However, GFD extinguished the flames and performed a small overhaul of the structure before returning to station at 4:57 p.m.

• At 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, GFD performed an odor investigation after receiving reports of the smell of gas at 202 E. Hanna St. The DePauw sorority house’s furnace pilot light was determined to be the source of the issue as it had extinguished some time before reports were received. GFD secured the utilities to the building and advised the residents to contact maintenance in the morning to resolve the issue. GFD subsequently returned to station at 12:02 a.m. Sunday.

• At 11:08 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 330 Greenwood Ave. The alarm was determined to have been activated unnecessarily due to a malfunctioning panel. GFD reset the alarm and returned to station at 11:28 a.m.

• At 6:34 p.m. on Monday, GFD responded to reports of a tree limb in the roadway at the intersection of Highwood and Highfall avenues. The Greencastle Street Department had already removed some of the debris from the roadway upon GFD’s arrival, prompting GFD to assist CSD in the completion process. GFD subsequently returned to station at 6:51 p.m.
