Circus theme for Brazil Band

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band will present “The Old Circus Band” Sunday, June 25 under the direction of Matthew S. Huber.

The free 8 p.m. concert will be staged in Forest Park at Brazil, rain or shine.

The BCB promises to keep the traditional sounds of the circus alive with the recent closing of Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey.

All season the BCB has included a duo of circus tunes each performance but this week is a complete celebration of the American circus with ringmaster David Brinson.

During the first half of Sunday’s show, the BCB will present a Center Ring Concert, keeping the tradition of a program of circus music as the crowd entered the big top.

Famous circus band leaders included Fred Jewell. Karl L. King and Merle Evans who led the RBBB band for nearly 50 years.

Jewell classics slated for the sawdust trail are “The Old Circus Band,” “The Pumpkin Center Cornet Band,” “The Crimson Petal” and “The Screamer.”

From the musical pen of King flows “A Night In June,” “The Walking Frog,” “Ragged Rozey,” “The Big Cage” and “Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite.”
