Joyce Yvonne Mayer, 79, of Greencastle, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Joyce was born Dec. 27, 1937 in Hartford City to the late Daniel Frederick and Gladys Bernice (Burchard) Streib.

Joyce earned her bachelor’s degree in computer science from IUPUI, going to night school while working a full-time job and raising three kids by herself. After she earned her degree, she worked as a systems analyst in Indianapolis.

She was a longtime and dedicated member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Greencastle. Her home was subject to constant home improvement projects, and she loved gardening, tending to the extensive garden around her house as well as those of her church.

Joyce also loved travelling, having visited China, India, Greece, Italy, Yugoslavia, Spain and Turkey, among others.

She is survived by her beloved children, Julia Stafford, Karen (Dan) Ginther and Alan (Tamara) Stafford; stepchildren Julie (Jonathan) Lamar, Rob Mayer and Ray Mayer; her brother, Fred (Angie) Streib; grandchildren Ryan (Heather) Thomas, Jesse Thomas, Jack Stafford, Nora Stafford, Gabriel Lamar, Duncan Lamar, Bryce Lamar, Grant Mayer, Kali Mayer and Scott Mayer; and great-grandson Blake Thomas.

Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Mayer.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 2. Private inurnment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
