A model of USS Indiana 789, America’s recently commissioned nuclear-powered submarine, is expected to visit the Putnam County Courthouse sometime Tuesday afternoon on the Fourth of July.

District 44 State Rep. Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) said the “best guess at this point” is that it will arrive in Greencastle sometime between noon and 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The idea is to get a picture of the USS Indiana 789 sub model -- which measures 27 feet long, 14 feet high and seven feet wide -- with every Indiana courthouse.

The model sub’s Tuesday itinerary is to start at Terre Haute that morning, go to Linton in Greene County, then Greencastle and finally to the Clay County courthouse at Brazil before dark.
