County quartet headed to Top 100

Thursday, July 6, 2017

Each Putnam County high school will be represented next week at the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 100 Underclass Showcase at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.

Tori Combs

Cloverdale junior Tori Combs is the only county representative in the girls’ Top 100 on Tuesday.

Combs averaged a double-double last year and was named the Banner Graphic “Player of the Year” in addition to earning all-Western Indiana Conference honors.

Owen Valley’s Dazia Drake is the only other representative from the Western Indiana Conference, while Madison Jones of Western Boone (sectional foe of Greencastle last year and the other county schools in Class 2A this year) will also be participating.

Elliot Gross

On Wednesday, Greencastle senior Colin York, North Putnam senior Elliot Gross and South Putnam junior Allen Plunkett will be competing in the boys’ Top 100 event.

Those three players all led their teams in scoring last season, and will be looked upon to carry a heavy burden again this winter.

Allen Plunkett

Other WIC players scheduled to participate are Northview’s Brigham Booe, Sullivan’s Ty Drake, Indian Creek’s Jared DeHart and Cascade’s Dalton DuBois.

Also participating will be Southmont’s Cam Chadd.

Greencastle’s Bryce Rector and North Putnam’s Collin McCartt will be serving as coaches during the event.

Colin York

Staged by the IBCA with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 200 of the top basketball prospects (about 100 boys and about 100 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.

The showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $5 per person per day.
