The section of Interstate 70 that runs through Morgan County isn’t more than a few miles wide but that was big enough to land a big catch Wednesday, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department reported.

During a traffic stop along I-70 between Little Point and Monrovia exit, about 12 miles east of Cloverdale, the Morgan County Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) Team seized an estimated $1.25 million in drugs.

During the traffic stop officers detected indicators of criminal activity. While executing a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers found an estimated 31,000 vape tubes designed for E-cigarettes but containing instead THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).

The drugs have a street value of approximately $1.25 million, authorities said.

The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Ryan Ferrand, from New York was arrested for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance. He was lodged in the Morgan County Jail at Martinsville.

Morgan County P.A.C.E. is a multi-jurisdiction law enforcement task force consisting of officers from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and Mooresville Police Department, funded through a grant by the (MCSAC) Morgan County Substance Abuse Council. The funds allow officers to dedicate time and resources toward concentrated drug interdiction patrols.
