PUTNAMVILLE -- The closure of State Road 243 over Interstate 70 has been pushed back until on or after Tuesday, July 25, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced.

In a Thursday statement, INDOT officials said the bridge, originally scheduled to close earlier this week, will reopen on Aug. 30.

The contractor will be overlaying the bridge deck over the interstate.

The detour utilizes U.S. 40, U.S. 231 and I-70.

This bridge deck overlay and superstructure replacement project was awarded to Wabash Valley Asphalt for $1.5 million. This contract also includes resurfacing S.R. 243 from State Road 42 to one half of one mile north of I-70 and overlaying the deck on the bridge over Fall Creek.

The entire project is scheduled for completion on Sept. 15.
