Sara Lee Ledgerwood

Sara Lee Ledgerwood, 78, of Centerpoint, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Westridge Healthcare, in Terre Haute.

She was born in Indianapolis, July 2, 1939, the daughter of Robert and Veda (Lasley) Flora.

She graduated from Reelsville High School and later received her bachelor's degree in home economics and master's degree in elementary education. She taught elementary education at Sheldon Tozer Elementary School in Houston, Texas. She also taught Home Economics at Clay City High School, Plainfield High School and Cascade High School. Mrs. Ledgerwood retired after 37 years of teaching.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Brazil, Dalmatian Club of America and the Dalmatian Club of Houston, Texas.

Along with her husband John, Sara raised and showed Dalmatians for more than 50 years. This became a passion that they both loved as they traveled around the country participating in dog shows.

Sara was also an excellent seamstress. She had made many drapes, quilts, wedding dresses and clothing over the years.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Veda Flora; her husband John Ledgerwood whom she married on Dec. 21, 1958, and a son, Robin Ledgerwood.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Ledgerwood and husband Anthony Tasset of Chicago; a grandson, Henry Tasset; a sister Carolyn Ledgerwood of Centerpoint; three brothers, David Flora and wife Bonnie of Reelsville, Denis Flora and wife Jo of Plainfield, and Norman Flora of Greencastle, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.

Graveside services will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Thursday, July 27 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clay City High School in Sara's memory.
