Robert "Bob" Nelson, 88, of Russellville, passed suddenly at his residence on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 1, 2017.

Bob was born on April 29, 1929 at Greencastle to David M. "Bill" and Grace "Fowler" Nelson.

He graduated from Greencastle High School.

He was a member of the Russellville Community Church.

Bob retired from North Putnam High School in 1999 after 13 years as a custodian. He also work in grain sales, and was a logger for several years, helping to log the area which is now Raccoon Lake.

He loved fishing, gardening, flowers, attending horse pulls -- one of his proudest moments was when he won the horse pull at the Putnam County Fair in 1948 -- and his dog Lucky. His most favorite hobby was aggravating his wife Linda.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Jan. 28, 1961 he married Linda Kay Cox at Jamestown, and she survives.

Other survivors include his children, Debra (Bill) Ireland of Crawfordsville and Sheri (Terry) Franklin of Roachdale; two sons, Daniel Nelson of Williamsport, and David (Jennifer) Nelson of Russellville, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one sister, Betty Jean (Robert) Perkins of Greencastle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Nelson in 2010, and one sister, Evelyn Shaughnessy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5 at Russellville Community Church at 4 p.m. with Pastor Alan Small officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. with the service to follow.
