TERRE HAUTE — The Greencastle High School girls’ golf team competed in the Terre Haute South Invitational on Tuesday at Rea Park, placing sixth among seven teams.

Vincennes Rivet won the event with a team total of 342, edging runnerup Jasper by three strokes.

Macey Masten paced the Tiger Cubs with a 99, followed by Marin Nally with a 110, Bailey Shuee with a 111, Rose White with a 113 and Molly Ramey with a 142.

The tourney was the first 18-hole event of the season for the Lady Cubs, after a nine-hole dual match on Monday.

“Macey played well on the front nine, but ran out of gas on the back,” Greencastle coach Steve Paquin said. “It was warm and all the players battled fatigue on the back nine, which is the harder of the nines.”

Paquin liked the balance in the next group of players.

“Marin, Bailey, and Rose were bunched together,” he said. “The girls hit alot of good drives and second shots, but struggled on fast hard greens with a number of three putts and some four putts.

“Molly improved greatly from Monday with more consistent drives and second shots.”

Paquin thought the team played better than in its first match on Monday, and is optimistic with its outlook.

“The girls showed improvement in driving and ball striking, with all the girls having putts for birdies, but unable to make the putt,” he said. “The fast greens posed problems for all the girls in the tournament, not just the Cubs.

“With practice, the putting will improve and the scores will come down,” he added. “This team will be very competitive by the end of the season.”
