Fillmore moves forward with paving Putnam St.

FILLMORE -- The Fillmore Town Council voted to move forward with a bid from West Central Contracting to pave Putnam Street at its recent regular meeting.

Having advertised the project as legally required and received no additional bids, President Curt Leonard received the green light for moving forward with a project that’s been discussed since February.

Clerk-Treasurer Tom Gilson also reported that Town Maintenance Director Joe Cash, who was absent, had looked into having trees over Putnam Street cut for school buses to pass through.

The cost had been between $1,600 - $3,200, and the job couldn’t be done until before the end of September.

In other developments:

-- Liberty Industries: The council approved continued tax abatements for Liberty Industries, which now has 27 employees. When the business opened in 2007, it employed 17.

The Fillmore Town Council’s next regular meeting is set for Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Fillmore Town Hall.
