State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell stopped by for a visit with the Putnam County Treasurer Kathy Minnick Wednesday morning.

"We want to start a relationship," Mitchell said, "so they (the county treasurers) know they can call ... just to understand that we are a partner and a resource."

Mitchell has been crisscrossing the state to visit all 92 county treasurers, especially those who she said are completely new to government. Having started in March, she is now more than halfway through and should have visited all by the end of the year.

During her visit she named some of the resources offered by the state to the counties, such as the Indiana Bond Bank, which helps local government finance infrastructure, vehicles, etc.; TrustINdiana, a local government investment pool Mitchell started in 2008 now boasting more than $1 billion; as well as educational and training materials.

Minnick mentioned that the county may look into investing in TrustINdiana in the future.

Mitchell is the 55th state treasurer, elected Nov. 4, 2014. Before then she worked in the Treasurer of State's Office for seven years as director of TrustINdiana.

She also serves as chairman of the Indiana Bond Bank, the statewide E-911 Board, the Indiana Education Savings Authority, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Authority and the sole trustee of the State Police Pension Trust.

As chief investment officer for the state, she is responsible for the daily management of about $5 billion - $7 billion.
