Visitor arrested at Putnamville Correctional Facility

PUTNAMVILLE — An Indianapolis woman had plans to visit an offender at Putnamville Correctional Facility on Friday when she was intercepted by investigators.

Instead, 55-year-old Alma Bryant-Romine, Indianapolis, was escorted to the Office of Investigation and Intelligence for questioning.

Acting on gathered intelligence from within the facility and the internal telephone system, Investigators J. R. Smith, Angela Taylor, Robert Evans, David Wire as well as lead investigator Keith McDonald seized a package that contained 12.9 grams of methamphetamine, 119 strips of suboxone, and 33.8 grams of synthetic marijuana.

Bryant-Romine was on her way to visit Marcus Bryant, who is serving two consecutive sentences out of Hendricks and Marion counties for burglary. He currently has an earliest possible release date of July 14, 2026.

Marcus Bryant is being investigated and held in the facility’s restricted housing unit.

Bryant-Romine was placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Putnam County Jail and faces preliminary charges of Level 5 felony conspiracy/attempted fealing in a narcotic drug (over 5 grams), Level 2 felony dealing in methamphetamine (over 10 grams) and Level 5 felony dealing in synthetic marijuana. She being detained on a $30,000 cash bond.

“An example of excellent teamwork,” Warden Brian Smith said. “Keeping contraband from entering the facility is a huge part of insuring the safety of the offenders and staff alike. All of those involved should be commended for a job well done.”
