The Lady Cougar golfers played their first 18-hole tournament on Saturday at Southmont without Dixon, who suffered a sprained ankle in practice Thursday night.

North Putnam coach Linda Patrick noted the four freshman Lady Cougars took to the course knowing that they would need to step up.

“The girls still had a little fear at the start of the meet knowing it was 18 holes,” she said. “Perseverance was the key word of the day.

“As they progressed through the day, they started to relax and strokes began to drop,” Patrick added. “This was a good practice course to prepare for conference and have fun. The greens were fast. One good skill all the freshmen have early is their putting.”

Haylee Greene led the Cougars with a 139, while, Nyiah Goff shot a 140, Grace Timm shot a 145 and Brittany Bonifacius added a 146.
