Golf

South Putnam 226, Cloverdale 236 — South Putnam had balanced scoring with its top four golfers all shooting under 60, and the Eagles were able to pick up their first win of the young season.

Medalist for the match was Abby Walker for Cloverdale with a season-low score of 46.

“South Putnam has a young team and they played very well,” Cloverdale coach Kyle Walter said. “They had a strong team effort. We are still struggling with being consistent match in and match out right now.”

Sammie Shrum placed second for the Clovers with a 54, while South Putnam was led by a trio of players with 56s — Anna Carrington, Reagan Ladd and Drew Steffy. Kate McCammack added a 58 for the Eagles.

South Putnam (226) — Anna Carrington 56, Reagan Ladd 56, Drew Steffy 56, Kate McCammack 58, Leighla Hazlett 67, Alex Fanning 71.

Cloverdale (236) — Abby Walker 46, Sammie Shrum 54, Hannah Nichols 67, Michaela Nees 69, Libby Dominguez 71, Gayle Baugh 73.

Next match — South Putnam hosts Southmont today at Clover Meadows, while Cloverdale plays at Crawfordsville on Thursday.

In other golf:

North Montgomery 199, Greencastle 213 — The Chargers posted the three best individual scores at Rocky Ridge and were able to record the 14-stroke win.

Macey Masten paced Greencastle with a 49, while North Montgomery’s Jaycee Walden was the medalist with a 43.

“We lost to a very consistent Charger golf team,” Greencastle coach Steve Paquin said. “Both teams played well in the beginning, but the Cubs were not able to keep the scoring to match North Montgomery. Our three top scorers made a number of pars, but made some mistakes in chipping and putting.”

Paquin noted that several team members had not played this course before.

“This was a new course for Marin [Nally], Bailey [Shuee] and Molly [Ramey], but each player made good shots and were able match their players closely,” he said. “Macey continues to lead the Cubs in scoring, while the others are lowering their scores by eliminating mistakes in shot making. This team continues to improve and with more range time and time spent chipping and putting will lower their scores.”

Greencastle (213) — Macey Masten 49, Marin Nally 50, Bailey Shuee 52, Rose White 62, Molly Ramey 66

North Montgomery (199) — Jaycee Walden 43, Megan Douglas 44, Chloe Maxwell 47, Abbe Horn 57, Kyla King 66

Next match — The Tiger Cubs play on Thursday at Clover Meadows against South Putnam and Danville.
