Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday, a head-on collision occurred at County Road 1000 South and State Road 243.

Joshua R. Link, 29, Paragon, was facing westbound on 1000 South at the intersection of 243 in 2002 Dodge Neon. State Road 243 makes a 90-degree turn at this intersection and Link was preparing to turn left onto southbound 243.

Alex M. Boggs, 20, Cloverdale, was eastbound on 243 in a 2008 Toyota Corolla attempting to continue straight east on 1000 South.

Link told Deputy Jeffery Freeman he was blinded by the sun and could not see Boggs’ vehicle so he began turning left onto 243, colliding with Boggs nearly head-on.

Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage and were towed.

Link complained of head and leg pain but signed a statement of release at the scene.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

• At 9 p.m. on Saturday, Madison S. Speier, 20, Coatesville, was backing out of a space at Anthony’s Pizza in Groveland in a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero.

Speier told Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle she did not see a 2015 Nissan Altima owned by Andrea Van Bibber, Coatesville, parked in another space. Speier’s SUV made heavy impact to the driver’s side rear corner of Van Bibber’s car.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

• At 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, Chester D. Butcher, 40, Millburg, Ohio, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 1200 South in a 2005 Ford F150. Jesse L. Kuchler, 22, Spencer, was also northbound, following Butcher in a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero.

Butcher slowed to make a left turn into a driveway, at which time Kuchler tried to pass him on the left. Kuchler’s car hit the driver’s side of Butcher’s truck and then veered off the west side of the road, crashing into a fence.

Butcher told Lt. Donnie Pettit he was sure that he had signaled his turn. Kuchler told the deputy that Butcher had not signaled.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
