Joseph Harold Ash, 81, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017 at his residence.

Joseph was born in Greencastle on March 24, 1936, the son of John Roy and Helen Marie (Klebush) Ash.

He attended Greencastle High School.

He worked at International Harvester in Indianapolis, for the Putnam County Highway Department as a road grader operator, and was later a superintendent. He also worked at Greencastle Manufacturing.

He liked going to Canada to fish and had traveled to Alaska several times.

Joe was a member of the Eagles 4388, American Legion SAL 58, and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary 1550.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Loretta Ann (Chiles) Ash; three children, Deanna Lynn Smiley, Darrell Wayne Ash and Douglas Lee Ash, (wife Susan); three grandchildren, Jason Wayne Ash, (wife Melissa), Jody Lynn Query, (husband Nick), and Shawn Michael Gregg; seven great-grandchildren, Courtney, Margaret, Dillion, Pyper, Lucas, Madyson and Marah; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-granddaughter, Abryanna; a great-grandson, Shannon; three brothers, James Edward, John Marvin and Francis Eugene Ash; and a sister, Edna Marie Cook.

At his request he will be cremated. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
