James E. Jordan passed away peacefully at Brown County Health and Living on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old.

James was born on Dec. 29, 1930 in Poland, Ind., the son of Clarence and Thelma (Talbott) Jordan.

James served proudly during the Korean War in the U.S. Army, receiving a Purple Heart during his service.

He worked at IBM for 23 years and as a correctional officer at the Plainfield Correctional Facility.

He was a member of the Bloomington VFW Post 604.

James was a great family man, loving his wife of 65 years, Mary (Fisher) Jordan; his children, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.

James liked to mow grass at the Greencastle golf course and play on his computer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Karen.

James is survived by his wife, Mary Jordan; son Richard Jordan; daughter Linda McKenzie; grandchildren Misty Hall of Gosport, Jennifer Rogers of Bloomington, Joey Jordan of Georgia, and Ricki Jordan of Florida; great-grandchildren William Sherfield, Cody Sherfield, Austin Hall, Makayla Hall, Blake Stephens and Eli Fisher; brother Ray Jordan and wife Sue, and sister-in-law Jerri Fisher.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Military honors will be provided by the Monroe County Honor Guard.
