Peace Lutheran to host Reformation movie screening

Saturday, September 9, 2017

Could an event that happened 500 years ago and 4,500 miles away really affect lives in Putnam County today?

The new documentary film “Luther: The Idea that Changed the World” makes the case that the Lutheran Reformation dramatically and irrevocably altered the course of Western history.

That is, Martin Luther’s biblical idea of a truly free Gospel changed how we perceive everything from education to church-state relations to civil rights.

Peace Lutheran Church will host a screening at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Peeler Art Center on the DePauw University campus.

While the documentary will air on PBS the same day at 8 p.m., the screening at Peeler Auditorium will allow the audience to engage in discussion with seminary-educated Lutherans in an open forum following the film.

Anyone who may have watched the film at home or is otherwise interested is also invited to join in further discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Starbucks.

Anyone wanting more information may contact Peace Lutheran Pastor Matt L. Schneider at 653-6995 or peacegreencastlein@gmail.com.
