Taped Teacher

Thursday, September 14, 2017
With fellow staff members and students applying the duct tape, Greencastle Middle School sixth grade science teacher Daniel Summerlot finds himself attached to the wall of the cafeteria Tuesday during lunch hour. Students and staff paid a dollar each for strips of duct tape. The “Teachers Taped to the Wall” fundraiser is part of a larger effort at GMS to raise money for hurricane relief in Texas and Florida. Funds will be donated to the local chapter of the American Red Cross. The endeavor began last week with a spirit week fundraiser as students paid $1 each day to dress in theme wear, while teachers paid $10 to wear jeans for the week. So far, the entire effort has raised $1,064.69, not including the sales of specially-designed T-shirts being sold by student council and Tri-M sponsors.

Later, fellow teacher Jane Roberson prepares to pull the chair out from under Summerlot’s feet to see if it will hold him to the wall. The tape failed.

  • While I love the idea of raising money for the hurricane victims, I totally disagree with giving a dime to the Red Cross. Have you not seen the treatment the victims and other donaters have received from the Red Cross. Did you know that only 9 cents of every $1 goes to the victims? The rest goes to the very highly paid executives! Better do some homework before handing over any money.

  • I totally agree with Putnamcountyproud! The Red Cross is lining their own pockets. Send the money to the Salvation Army or some local to the area churches and the money will actually go to help those in need.
