PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Tiger Cubs shut out Bulldogs; Cub spikers top SP in three

The Greencastle Lady Tiger Cubs hosted Monrovia on Monday in high school soccer action and emerged with a 7-0 win.

During the first half, Erin Thomas scored three goals for Greencastle. Two were assisted by Kennedy Trigg and one by Abbie Beauchamp.

Thomas, Beauchamp, Trigg and Sydney Doan each had a second-half goal, while Trigg, Corinne Buchanan, and Kaitlyn Dibble earned an assist.

Gillen had five saves as goalkeeper.

The Lady Tiger Cubs will host Cascade on Saturday in the Western Indiana Conference match for fifth place.

The last regular-season home game is slated for Tuesday and will also be Senior Night. The team looks forward to celebrating with seniors Corinne Buchanan and Megan Friars, coach Angie Weeks said.

In other soccer:

Western Boone 4, North Putnam 1 — The Lady Cougars lost at home to the Stars.

The game was stopped after the second weather delay with 20 minutes left to play.

Senior Abby Spencer scored the only Cougar goal on Senior Night.

Volleyball

Greencastle 3, South Putnam 0 — The Tiger Cubs topped the Eagles by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-9 on Tuesday night.

Jalyn Duff led the Greencastle offense with 22 assists. Jada Amis had nine kills, while Macy Clark and Lilly Meyer both added four.

Defensively, Maggie Meyer led the defense with nine digs, and Ivy Wright added eight.

Cross country

Cougars place second at NV — North Putnam finished second in both the boys’ and girls’ races at the North Vermillion Invitational on Tuesday.

Caleb Duncan led the Cougars in the boys’ race by placing second, while Anna Haste was fourth in the girls’ race to lead the North Putnam squad.

“Our times weren’t as quick as we wanted in the boys’ race, but the effort earned the team second,” NP coach Kevin Lutes said. “ Our freshmen came up big again in the girls’ race, with Anna earning 5th followed closely by Grace [Elmore] seventh.

“The kids are having a lot of fun competing as two full teams, and hopefully they’ll work harder to find more success.”

Middle school Eagles, Cougars split — North Putnam defeated South Putnam 17-46 in a boys’ dual meet on Tuesday, while the Eagles dominated the girls’ race by a 19-40 margin.

Zach Huff of North Putnam won the boys’ race in 12:19, while Lily Vittetow of South Putnam won the girls’ race in 14:30.
