CLOVERDALE —The Cloverdale varsity volleyball team defeated Edgewood 25-22, 28-26 25-10 on Monday night.

Junior setter Hannah Rady recorded her 1,000th career assist in the third set of the match.

Rady also served 13 points with five aces.

The attack was led by Tori Combs with 18 kills and six blocks. Kenzie Stoltz had 11 kills and 10 points with three aces, Justyce Monnett had seven kills and Hailey Thomas had 23 digs.

“I was happy with the team performance,” Clover coach Traci Scott said. “We’ve played several games where we lead sets and then can not finish strong with the win. Tonight the Clovers came out ready to play and continued a steady attack throughout the night.”

Scott feels her team’s 8-13 record is deceptive.

“Our record does not paint a clear picture of our team,” she said. “I still believe we are a great team that has not peaked, and am hoping to finish strong.”

The Clovers are home next Monday and Tuesday to finish out regular-season matches.

Tuesday is Senior Night and Grandparent Night.

Greencastle 9, South Vermillion 0 (girls) – The Lady Tiger Cubs celebrated Senior Night by honoring players Corinne Buchanan and Megan Friars.

As temperatures still hovered in the low 90s, the team was able to strike a lead in the first half started by Erin Thomas.

The team’s second and goals were earned by Kennedy Trigg, the second one assisted by Thomas.

“The second half offered more communication among players which led to additional scoring,” coach Angie Weeks said.

Megan Friars earned her first goal of the season, while Trigg and Thomas shot two additional goals each.

Sydney Doan was able to secure the last goal for the team. Assists for the second half were from Thomas (2) and Trigg (3).

The Tiger Cubs will play against Monrovia next week at Southmont in sectional action.

No. 5 Greencastle 4, Owen Valley 0 (boys) – The Tiger Cubs picked up their fifth shutout in a row.

“The boys struggled to get the game under control for a majority of the first half,” coach J.D. Sims said.

Simon Foss broke the deadlock at the end of the half by scoring the first goal. Greencastle picked up play in the second half, getting goals from Evan Crowe, Jakob Foss and an own goal from Owen Valley sealed the victory.

Hector Lezama hooked up two goals during the game and Jack Romer had one assist.

North Putnam 1, Monrovia 1 (boys) — The Cougars got a first-half goal from Alex Krominaker and battled the Bulldogs to a tie.

“It was a very evenly-matched contest,” NP coach Curt Krominaker said. “We started out very strong in the first half and played well on our Senior Night. We had a good crowd and I think that fired everyone up.”

Coach Krominaker thought his team had good momentum and control of the pitch for the first 40 minutes.

“The halftime festivities of honoring the seniors took some of our focus off the game, and we came out a step slower in the second half,” he said. “We gave up more opportunities in the second half, but no goals except the one that came from a penalty kick”

Krominaker was proud of his team for its great effort.

“It has been a difficult season but the team has stuck together and has developed a lot since the first game,” he said..
