Monday, October 2, 2017

The fourth annual Oktoberfest event arrives this Saturday, Oct. 7 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Greencastle.

The Knights of Columbus-sponsored event unfolds from 4-11 p.m. at 202 E. Washington St.

The idea is to bring the community and the parish together for a day of fun and fundraising.

"Even though it's a church event per se, it's a big community event that figures to grow. That's the long-term goal," Oktoberfest Committee Chairman Matt Welker told the Banner Graphic, stressing that it is open to the public and DePauw University faculty students and staff have been encouraged to attend.

Proceeds are being shared with local organizations and charities and parish groups.

The event features live music, children's activities, games of chances, raffle drawings, food, beer (craft and domestic) and wine.

Action will be ongoing both inside and out with the DePauw German Brass Quintet kicking off the live music at 4:30 p.m. before the popular Terre Haute-based group, The MacDaddys, hits the stage from 7:30-11 p.m.

Children's activities are scheduled from 4-8 pm. and include a bounce house, face painting, games and prizes.

Besides bingo, the church will also host a poker booth, number wheel and pull tabs.

Raffle drawing prizes will include Colts, Notre Dame and Purdue football tickets, Indiana University basketball tickets, restaurant gift certificates and more.
