County Jail

Three people were booked in the Putnam County Jail on Monday.

• At 10:30 p.m. Jay Michael Scott, 38, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.

• At 9:29 p.m. Jason Grant Snider, 43, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 8:54 p.m. Mary Eillen Walker, 33, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage accidents.

• A New Palestine woman was cited on Monday for driving without proof of financial responsibility after getting her car stuck in a ditch.

At 9:48 p.m. Deputy Robert Soilleux was dispatched to County Road 900 South in Washington Township.

Ashley N. Roberts, 27, New Palestine, was intending to turn around but did not realize the depth of the ditch, getting her 2001 BMWCi stuck.

Soilleux asked Roberts several times for proof of insurance. She said she had insurance but refused to show proof.

Roberts told Soilleux it was on her phone but that the phone did not work, even though she made several calls while in front of the deputy.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

Soilleux was assisted by Reserve Deputy Mark Jack.

• At 8:03 p.m. on Monday, Alfred A. Mikles, 74, Reelsville, was westbound on County Road 550 South near County Road 450 West in a 2008 Ford Explorer when he hit a deer.

Deputy Soilleux estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

City Police

One recent citation was issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 2:25 a.m. Monday, Bronson Burgeson, 24, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Luke Brown.

Burgeson, who was stopped at Indianapolis Road and State Road 240, was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department recently responded to three dispatches and one medical assist.

• At 12:26 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to resports of an unauthorized burn at 307 W. Columbia St. Upon arrival, crews discovered the outside fire to be located near a fence between two houses situated near one another. The majority of the leaf fire was extinguished with water, though a fire extinguisher was used to ensure the flames were completely out.

• At 10:06 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to reports of a vehicle fire at 2540 E. County Road 50 South. GFD found no flames present upon arrival, though smoke was clearly visible and was determined to be stemming from the engine compartment. GFD sprayed water into the compartment from both above and underneath the vehicle, the latter of which ultimately extinguished the small fire.

• At 3:03 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a fire alarm due to cooking at 101 E. Hanna St. GFD reset the alarm and subsequently returned to station.
