ACLU to address our civil liberties in Nov. 1 program at City Hall

Thursday, October 26, 2017

The United States Constitution begins with the declaration: “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

This document lays out our freedoms and our obligations as we all work to form a more perfect union. When we go to the ballot box, write letters to the editor, attend rallies, request government documents, protest policies we disagree with, we are exercising our civil liberties that are guaranteed in the constitution.

On Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. the ACLU of Indiana will present “7 Point Plan to Defend Our Civil Liberties” at Greencastle City Hall, located at the northeast corner of East Washington and Locust streets.

Katie Blair, director of advocacy and public policy, and Ashley Toruno, community engagement associate, from the ACLU of Indiana, will be the featured speakers.

The free public event is sponsored by the Greencastle League of Women Voters and the Compton Center for Peace and Justice.
