Elizabeth Murphey

Elizabeth (Stovall) Murphey, 90, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 in Greencastle.

Elizabeth was married to her husband George (predeceased in October 2016) for more than 68 years. They were married on Oct. 23, 1948.

George and Elizabeth have three children, Susan (predeceased in 1992), Michael (wife Debbie and children Dathan and Jennifer, Vero Beach, Fla.), and David (wife Cristina and grandson Jake, Austin, Texas).

Elizabeth was born in Graves County, Ky. After her wedding to George, they moved to various towns in Kentucky and Indiana before finally settling into Greencastle in 1957.

Elizabeth was very involved and giving to her community. She was an active member and beloved sister of the women of Tri-Kappa for more than 40 years, and played an important role in creating a scholarship endowment for women committed to earning a college degree.

She and George were active members of the First Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Visitation and funeral service will be held Monday, Nov. 6 at Bittles and Hurt, 602 E. Washington St., Greencastle. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until noon. The funeral service will begin at noon. Afterward the family members and close friends will have a reception at the First Baptist Church, 404 Judson Drive, Greencastle.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Putnam County Memorial Cancer Research Fund at the Putnam County Community Foundation.
