Charges dropped against Bainbridge man
EDITOR'S NOTE: The accuser in this case was later discredited. Violent felony charges against Walter Pate were dropped.
A Bainbridge man was booked in the Putnam County Jail early Wednesday morning on a preliminary charge of rape, along with five other charges.
Walter Lamar Pate Jr., 52, was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Deputy Robert Soilleux arrested Pate at 1:20 a.m. for the Level 3 felony, as well as two Level 6 felonies — strangulation and possession of methamphetamine.
The other three charges were all Class A misdemeanors, battery, intimidation and interference with the reporting of a crime.
No further information on the incident was available Thursday evening. Additionally, formal charges had not been filed by the Putnam County prosecutor.
