PCPL cuts costs with Duke Energy Saver Program

The Putnam County Public Library is shining brighter these days with new LED lights installed by Duke Energy as part of the company’s Small Business Energy Saver Program.

Installation was completed Oct. 13, and is expected to save $567.28 per month, which comes to $6,807.37 per year. Cost of installation was $8,133.40, and the changes are expected to pay for themselves in about a year.

In other developments:

-- Absences: Vice President Lisa McCoy was absent.

-- Budget: The board approved adopting the 2018 budget.

-- Claims: The board approved claims at $83,743.46, a decrease of $14,657.52 from last month and an increase of $3,923.88 from the year’s average.

-- Department reports: Director Carson summarized the department reports:

-- The growing DVD collection will need more shelving.

-- The Putnam Adult Literacy Service will present at the next 100 Women Who Care meeting in hopes of receiving funding.

-- The “Hour of Code” program now has steady attendance.

-- The local history and genealogy department now offers FamilySearch, the world’s largest collection of genealogical records.

-- Personnel: The board approved the following personnel report:

-- Hired: Danielle Richardson (technical devices manager); C. J. Shields (technical assistant).

-- The board also approved a slight increase in pay for two employees.

-- Signage: PCPL is working with Silverwood Signs on design and installation of a new outdoor sign at the corner of Poplar Street and College Avenue. The new sign is expected by the end of the year.

-- Statistics: Director Grier Carson reported the following statistics: A decrease in registered borrowers; an increase in Interlibrary Loan circulation, an increase in 50 stops per month for outreach and continued bike circulation.

The Putnam County Public Library Board of Trustee’s next regular meeting is Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. in the Kiwanis conference room.
