Joan M. Kirkham, 85, Greencastle, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2017 at her residence.

Joan was born Oct. 31, 1932 in Elkhart County, Ind., the daughter of Edward and Edith (Anglemyer) Ummel.

She was a 1950 graduate of Beaver Dam High School in Kosciusko County, Ind.

Mrs. Kirkham was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, past member of Indiana Holstein Association and was very involved with 4-H. She worked as a dairy supervisor with the Dairy Herd Improvement Association through Purdue University for the State of Indiana for more than 50 years.

Survivors include her three sons, Marc Kirkham (Terri), Nashville, Marv Kirkham (Pattie), Greencastle, and Matt Kirkham (Debra), Bainbridge; seven grandchildren, Brandon Kirkham (Sarah), Milwaukee, Wis., Stephanie Gilbert (Levi), Nashville, Tenn., Maria Brewer (Chris), Bainbridge, Myra Cox (Dale), Morton, Kyle Kirkham (Liz), Roachdale, Jacob Kirkham (Ciara), Bainbridge, and Joseph Kirkham, Bainbridge; 8 ½ great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Swick; a sister-in-law, Muriel Ummel; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Edward Wayne Kirkham; and eight siblings.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector from 11 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
